— Bruce Bauer, Principal Data Center Engineer - Expedia

Expedia required an upgrade of their existing critical power system to support their IT needs. Our team was engaged early on as the Construction Manager and Engineering Consultant for the project, and acted as the onsite Owner’s Representative.

The upgrade included the provision of a new 2N critical power system to add 300kW to their existing 1500kW UPS system (per side). The system required significant cut-ins to existing medium voltage, as well as 480V.

The initial tasks included assessing current conditions to determine the risk of downtime and to develop options to reduce and mitigate the risk of an outage during construction. This involved reviewing and assessing the established Method of Procedure (MOP) process and developing recommendations to improve the means and methods of the construction activities to reduce the planned downtime, as well as mitigate the risk of unplanned downtime.

Ultimately, we led the MOP process, and then began the construction implementation of the 2N upgrades in the facility.

In addition, a peer review was performed of the existing engineering design to determine risks to Expedia’s operations now and in the future.
